Sunscreen: Stay Safe in the Sun Why do we need to protect our skin from the sun?

UVA and UVB are two types of radiation from the sun that can cause damage to the skin.1

UVB rays are the sun rays that harm the top surface of your skin. They cause sunburns, tanning and reddening of the skin.1,6 The redness and sunburn caused by UVB rays can be seen right away and will normally get better in a few hours or in 1-2 days.3

UVA rays go deeper into the skin than UVB rays.6 UVA is the main cause of skin aging (wrinkles, dry and dull skin, uneven skin color, moles, freckles, leathery skin).1 The damage to the skin takes years to show up.3 Once your skin looks damaged, there are very few treatments that can help it look normal again. For that reason, you need to protect your skin now as you won’t see the damage until it is too late.4

Broad spectrum sunscreen will protect your skin from the harmful effects of both UVA and UVB radiation.2
