What is gonorrhea?
Gonorrhea is caused by bacteria and can infect the genitals, rectum or throat2. This infection is becoming more common and has been increasing over the last 10 years1.
How do you get gonorrhea?
It usually spreads during sex however, babies can be infected during childbirth if the mother is already infected2.
Who gets the infection?
Anyone sexually active can get the infection but there are some factors that will increase your risk. These are:
- Unprotected sex
Multiple sex partners2
Previous gonorrhea diagnosis2
Already having other sexually transmitted infections2
