Getting regularly tested is recommended if you are sexually active, to ensure you and your partner(s) are infection free2.

What would happen if I don’t treat it?

If you don’t treat syphilis, it can transform and even become deadly. It can cause5:

  • Stroke
  • Hearing
  • Visual problems
  • Dementia
  • Loss of temperature and pain sensation
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Bladder incontinence
  • Sudden lighting-like pain

These are only some of the possible things that can happen if you don’t treat Syphilis!

Do I need to tell my partner(s)?

If you’ve been diagnosed with syphilis, you need to tell any person you’ve had sex with in the last 90 days, so that they can be tested and treated3. If you’ve been diagnosed with a later stage of syphilis, you may need to notify partners from a year ago3.
