Most of these products have limited or no research, or there is potential for unequal amounts of the ingredient in each capsule or tablet. Also, these products can interact with many prescription medications and can cause serious side effects.11

Melatonin is a very popular supplement used for sleep. Melatonin is natural hormone in the body and many people think it is a very safe product. However, there is little research showing it actually works to help you sleep.11

Melatonin can cause many side effects, with drowsiness and grogginess during the day being the most common. Melatonin should not be taken by a pregnant women, or women who want to become pregnant in the near future. It should also be avoided by people with heart conditions, depression, diabetes, seizure disorders, and many more.

It is very important to you talk to your pharmacist or before taking Melatonin alone or in combination with other medications.11
