When Every Breath Matters: Asthma in Children What medications are commonly prescribed for children with asthma?
Inhaler

The following are medications commonly used for asthma:

  • Reliever inhaler (For example: Ventolin®, Bricanyl®)
  • Preventer inhalers called inhaled corticosteroid (Flovent®, Pulmicort®, Alvesco®, Qvar®)
  • Preventer medication called montelukast (Singulair)

They all work slightly different, but the purpose is to either open up the airways to the lungs or lower the inflammation in the lungs. Both of these work to help you so that your child can breathe easier

There may be other medications that the doctor may have prescribed to your child. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist for more information about these medications.
