Sports-related Concussion: When medicine and sport meet head on
Case Study #1 – Meet Dustin
Dustin
Name: Dustin
Age: 18 years old
Occupation: Student
Height: 192 cm (6'3”)
Weight: 195 lbs
Lifestyle: competitive amateur hockey player

Dustin is an 18-year-old student who has been playing hockey since he was 7 years old. He hit his head during a game four days ago, but did not lose consciousness. He says he is unsure of what happened before the hit, but only because play was so fast. He sat out for 10 minutes, then went on to play the remainder of the game since he had no nausea or headache.

Since then, Dustin has had problems sleeping. He doesn’t like to look at his computer screen and felt sluggish during last night’s practice.
